Welcome to Burlesque!

Over the past decades, the wonderful art of burlesque has become increasingly popular once again. The highly choreographed dance, the rhythmic music, the flashy costumes and the performers themselves combine to make a sensuous show that has a way of capturing the audience’s attention and holding on to it.

Burlesque and cabaret have been the topics of several smash-hit films of the 2000s. In 2001 Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge! thrilled critics and audiences alike earning numerous prestigious awards and nominations. The Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor magical musical mashup would go on to spawn a stage version. Moulin Rouge is set to come to London’s Piccadilly Theatre in March 2021 and interest is already reaching a fever pitch.

Following on the success of Moulin Rogue, the aptly named Burlesque film hit theatres in 2010 with megastars Cher and Christina Aguilera starring and creating the music for the award-winning soundtrack. Not to let the ladies have all the fun, Magic Mike followed two years later.

Though Magic Mike certainly centres on the world of stripping as opposed to burlesques, many parallels can be drawn. This sexy film franchise has created its own international stage show. Magic Mike Live at the Hippodrome Casino in London has just celebrated its 1st anniversary.

In 2017 the Ministry of Burlesque was a featured event at the Christmas in Leicester Square celebration and they kept the Christmas spirit on high throughout.

Burlesque the hottest new ticket

Burlesque has long piqued the interest of the public from the Victorian Burlesques popular in London in the 1800s to the American style burlesques that gained popularity as the performers shed their clothing. Cabaret and burlesque have held a place in popular culture for ages and while they might once have been whispered about dark corners, now they are a staple among party nights with great appeal to a wide audience.
