Rebecca at Charing Cross Theatre

This chillingly accurate adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s iconic Gothic novel will incite paranoia and adrenaline into those who dare to watch. Believing that she has found a new and perfect life in Mr. Maxin De Winter, a young woman heads for settlement in a secluded Cornish estate, however, her future is filled with dark, conspicuous uncertainty.

When the wealthy Maxin De Winter marries a young, unnamed woman, he brings the innocent new bride to his mysterious and remote Cornish estate, Manderley, where she is faced with the resentful presence of the peculiar housekeeper Mrs Danvers and is compared to the late Rebecca De Winter, who was killed in a horrific drowning accident. Although the old Mrs De Winter is gone, her presence looms over the manor - and it is as ominous as it is intense. Rebecca reminds us that the ghosts of our past are ever-present and inescapable. A brief history

Published in 1938, Rebecca gained acclaim for its suspenseful narrative and vivid characters. It has never gone out of print. Rebecca tickets have long been sought after in London.

This psychological thriller has been performed in various forms on stage and screen. A film adaptation premiered in 1940 under the direction of Alfred Hitchcock, and it has been adapted numerous times for stage, including a 1939 play by du Maurier herself. The haunting and evocative music for the stage adaptation was composed by Franz Waxman

One of the most popular songs associated with the show, "Manderley in Flames" is an evocative and dramatic piece that captures the story's intensity. Fans of Rebecca are particularly drawn to the enigmatic characters of the novel, including the unnamed narrator, Mrs. Danvers, and of course, the spectral presence of Rebecca herself. These characters have become iconic in their own right.
