In case you haven't heard... American actress Courtney Reed, who is best known for originating the role of Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin musical on Broadway, is now starring in the London production of Aladdin at the Prince Edward Theatre for a limited time only ahead of the show's official closing.

What better way to close this spectacular show with a bang then to cast the original Jasmine herself? Illinois-born actress Courtney Reed officially joined the West End production of Disney's Aladdin on 23 April 2019, starring in a dream team cast led by the hilarious Trevor Dion Nicholas as Genie, Matthew Croke as Aladdin, Fred Johanson as Jafar, Irvine Iqbal as Sultan, Daniel De Bourg as Kassim, Leon Craig as Babkak, and Julian Capolei as Omar. At press time, it is unclear whether Jade Ewen of the Sugababes will return to the role ahead of the show's closing.

Courtney Reed's return to the role marks her feature West End debut and her prior stage credits on Broadway include the understudy/replacement for the roles of Carla, Nina, and Vanessa in the musical, In The Heights, as well as an understudy for both Ali and Lisa in Mamma Mia!.

West End Aladdin musical must end 31 August 2019

Broadway's Aladdin musical transferred to London's West End on 15 June 2016 and has since been nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Set Design and has won two WhatsOnStage Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Trevor Dion Nicholas) and Best Costume Design (Gregg Barnes). The musical will continue to run in New York at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway following the London closing.

The jaw-dropping and eye-popping production expands the 90-minute cartoon film into a full-blown two-act musical that maintains the same elements that Disney fans both know and love while also adding new characters, songs, and side plots. The musical boasts music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Tim Rice and Howard Ashman, and a book with additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin. It is directed and choreographed by the Tony-nominated Casey Nicholaw, who is also behind The Book of Mormon, Monty Python's Spamalot, and Mean Girls The Musical.
