The UK premiere of Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol

In the heart of east Tennessee lie the Great Smoky Mountains, the mountains are hard at the best of times, and the 1930s are far from the best of times. This incredible new production reworks the Dickens’ classic. As the owner of a mining company town, Ebenezer Scrooge is so blinded by money and his unfeeling greed that he can’t even recognise the beauty and gifts of the holiday season.

With a snowstorm and Christmas Eve fast approaching Scrooge is visited, first by his dead business partner, then by three ghosts who try to make him see his life in a new way. The spirits try to thaw his heart and make him accept that love is the most valuable thing of all.

Dickens’ classic characters come together with Dolly Parton’s masterful songwriting and storytelling in a production that is sure to warm your hearts and be one of the best gifts of the holidays!

Who is involved in Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol?

Based on the classic Dickens story, Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol was adapted for the stage by David H. Bell, Paul T. Couch and Curt Wollans. Music and lyrics come from multi-award-winning powerhouse Dolly Parton, who along with some of your favourite songs brought us the hit musical 9 to 5! The show has a book by David H. Bell. The Boston premiere was directed by Curt Wollans.

An absolute blast, very quirky the music was good and the cast were very good. A good piece of writing from Dolly Parton

From the moment we walked into the theatre we were impressed with the staff meeting and greeting which was friendly and informative. The foyer had a bar and was pleasant to sit in for pre theatre drinks. The theatre seats extremely comfortable. The show was delightful, a humorous and joyous interpretation of a Christmas, beautifully choreographed , acted and sang. Robert Bathhurst was a very believable North American Smokey Mountain version of Scrouge. Beautiful violin playing solo, though all the songs were professionally potrade. All in all a good show which recieved a standing Ovation which was well deserved

Gillian Gage

Misleading advertising. Excessive price for artists.

Mrs Georgina Gardner

Owing to the train stike we could not get to see the showv

Shirley Round

Unfortunately due to the train strike we could not attend the show. The theatre did offer to "change our tickets to another performance where possible" but that didn't work out. We were disappointed to miss the show.

Gordon Campbell

A nice twist on the story. Enjoyed the music.

Sally Esom

A great production, amazing cast who when they sang together raised the hairs on my neck! Well thought out scenery, prop changes and effects. All in all a great show and a fun day out. The time passed so quickly; we were clearly having a great time!

With Dolly Partons name behind the title, we were expecting good quality music and a cast that would make an effort For some reason the sound volumes were at such a level ( too loud) you couldn’t quite define what was being said The majority of the cast were let down by the lead ( Scrooge) who seemed completely disinterested in the performance and somewhat amateur. However we got the distinct impression the whole of the cast did not want to be there. Ok it was a bank holiday Monday and towards the end of the run But it really was so badly performed we left at the interval and can’t help but feel we have been robbed

Mary Williams

Not quite for me

Derek Lowe

Fantastic

Patrick

The show livened up in the second half. Not sure if it was the acoustics or the diction of the actors but the dialogue was difficult to follow.

Jonathan W

A good and enjoyable show, well performed but not outstanding. Not sure the Christmas Carol adaptation worked that well set in the smoky mountains. Pleased we went to see the show but not a ‘must see’ show I would recommend.
