About Safe Haven

Safe Haven interlaces high-stakes political decision-making with powerful stories of Kurdish endurance, creating a concise yet compelling portrait of courage, conscience, and humanitarian action. In the wake of the First Gulf War, as Saddam Hussein’s forces crush the Kurdish uprising, two million Kurds flee into the freezing mountains while the world watches scenes of starvation and death unfold on television.

In Whitehall, two diplomats - guided by a Kurdish refugee - race to persuade the British government that intervention is a moral imperative before time runs out.

It’s worth the applause

“A remarkable retelling of a story not so long ago when compassion and collective action aligned to change the course of history, of people’s lives; a telling reminder that individuals can make a difference” -  Lyse Doucet, BBC Chief International Correspondent
